FAQs

What’s is your process? Where do we start?

We start with a phone call. We’ll talk about ideas you might have and try to define the styles and color schemes you like. If you aren’t sure what you want, I’ll give you some “home-work.” We’ll meet in the space you want finished and view sample finishes I think meet your criteria. We’ll determine one or two finishes you’d like to see, which will then be designed specifically for you. Samples, cost, and time estimates are all presented in a proposal.

What services do you offer?

  • Cabinets and furniture finishing

  • Decorative Plasters and textures: earthen, metallic, Venetian
  • Faux bois/wood graining

What surfaces do you work on?

If it doesn’t move, I can decorate it. Primarily I work on:

  • Walls
  • Ceilings
  • Cabinets
  • Furniture
  • Floors
  • Architectural elements such as molding and columns.

If there’s something else you’re interested in, let me know. I’ve worked on car roofs, tailgates, keep-sake boxes, statues, fireplaces, and more!

Do you do exterior work?

Yes. However, exterior work is subject to weather. Wet or damp weather and cold conditions negatively interact with products and can ruin a finish, so I limit out-door activities to clement conditions.

Do you provide samples?

Part of the project process is creating sample boards so you can determine which finish you want and so you can see the finish in the selected area. Sample boards remain the property of A Fine Finish, and as a company policy, I do not leave them with anyone. If you need an example of the finish to coordinate other design elements, I can provide smaller sample swatches.

How long will my project take?

The length of a project depends entirely on your individual project. Some projects take a few days, some take weeks. After we meet, determine the areas to receive the finish, and which finish you want, I will create a schedule that estimates the length of your project. The schedule is included in a project proposal.

What will my project cost?

As all projects are custom, I charge a project fee, which is based on the amount of time I estimate the project will take, and material costs. I do not charge an hourly rate. The cost of a project depends entirely on your individual project size and materials used.

Decorative finishing is a luxury service. I am a trained and skilled artisan, and I charge accordingly.

Think of it this way, if I charged hourly, you would pay as much as you do for a good plumber.

A minimum project would be an accent wall in a single glaze for around $1,000. On the upper end, I have worked on $10,000 bathroom finishes. Most single-room projects fall in-between.

What if I don’t like the finish when it’s done?

I follow a design process specifically to create a finish you’ll love. However, sometimes what’s on a sample might not translate in your imagination to an entire wall or room.

After the finish is done, if you decide you don’t like it, we’ll have a discussion about the problem.

If the finish reasonably matches the sample you approved, I will work with you to come up with a different finish that will delight you, and I will do so at a reduced rate. If you decide you don’t want a decorative finish, I can return the wall to a flat wall color at a standard, contract painter rate.

I started my business in 2007. In all these years, this situation has never occurred.

If I miss the mark and the finish I create doesn’t match the sample, I guarantee to make it right at no cost to you.

Do you guarantee your work?

Do you work with Interior Designers?

Yes. Working with Interior Designers on projects for their clients is an integral part of my business. One of the reasons I trained in Interior Design was to understand the design process and enhance my working relationship with Designers.

Do you work with other contractors?

Yes, I work with other home professionals, such as general contractors, standard painting contractors, home planners, and architects. I can provide direction for other contractors when their work is integral to the finish, but you will need to contract directly with them.
